well any of both would be good, but the part I am most puzzled about it the materials and stuff to use in building it.
I will check out those DVDs I own both of them, i'm sure i've seen it before, i'll just have to check it again.
thanks

Do you want to know about actually making the miniature (if so look into 'model making') or about how to use one in a shot with actors etc? They talk about miniatures quite extensively on some of the LOTR Extended DVDs.

depends on what you are trying to make.
If you are making a building you could use wood
if you are making a city, cardboard
a cave: plaster of paris....
its too broad a question - be more specific.
As for filming it, there are a few perspective and blue screen tricks you can use to give the
impression that the model is full sized, but I wouldnt really rely on it unless you are a shit hot model maker (and since you asked the question it doesnt sound like you are.)
Safest bet is to EXPECT it to look like a model.
Cheers

I'd have a look in hobby shops, there's a lot of stuff you can get to do with model trains that's already done for you.
Also, you have to film in slow motion if you've got any miniature movement, I posted a scale on here a while back (2001 probably LOL), it might still be around :S
EDIT: Post about shooting miniatures

Hiya
I'm really experienced in model making 1:25 scale for the theatre - can get colours, textures, finishes and all that down.
Mounting board or foam board are great for the basic structure - ie walls and floor. Anything else depends on what you're making really, and you might have to be really resourceful - one time I used gravy browning for damp patches and ground pepper for dust. Weird but it worked a treat!
What is it that you're wanting to build?

i was looking to build some street sets, and some interiors, but all of it was highly stylalized, so realism wasn't much of a problem, it is more of a problem of finding the right material that will hold up and just basically work the best for building purposes.
